About Travel with Cats

Travelling with a cat asks a lot of you: patience, planning, and a whole list of tiny decisions that rarely feel clear. If you’ve ever stood in an airport wondering whether your carrier really fits, or searched hotel websites trying to decipher whether they mean “pets” or “dogs only”, you’re in exactly the right place.

Travel with Cats was built for people in that moment.

After planning and attempting trips with two cats – and discovering how inconsistent and stressful the process can be – we realised how much relief comes from having one place with calm, practical guidance instead of fifty open tabs.

Who’s behind Travel with Cats

Travel with Cats is run by a human who lives with outdoor cats, has navigated international moves and relocations, and has spent an unreasonable amount of time researching airline pet policies, import rules and similar.

I’m not a vet, airline employee or government official. I’m a cat owner who has had to solve the same problems you’re facing now, and I’ve built the site I would’ve wanted to use.

How we research and update articles

Because travel rules change and “pets allowed” can hide a lot of caveats, each guide is built on:

  • Official sources first – airline pet policies, ferry and rail operators, government and customs pages.
  • “Last updated” dates – key regulatory and policy pieces clearly show when they were last reviewed.
  • Real-world context – articles are written from the point of view of an actual traveller with a cat in a carrier, not a generic travel blog.

We still encourage you to re-check critical details (fees, weight limits, specific routes) with your airline, vet or hotel before you travel. Policies change; your cat’s comfort and safety come first.

How this site makes money

Some pages on Travel with Cats include links to products, services or hotels that may pay a small commission if you book or buy through them, at no extra cost to you.

Those links help cover the time it takes to research, write and keep guides updated. They don’t change which airlines, routes, carriers or hotels we recommend or warn against – if something isn’t a good idea for your cat, we’ll say so.

What this site can and can’t do

Travel with Cats is here to:

  • Help you understand the rules and practicalities of travelling or relocating with a cat.
  • Offer realistic, step-by-step advice so you can plan with a calmer brain.
  • Flag the choices between different options (cabin vs cargo, overnight hotel vs push through, and so on).

Travel with Cats is not:

  • A substitute for veterinary advice: always talk to your vet before putting a cat through a long journey or if they have any health issues.
  • An official source for public transport, hotel, or government policy: always double-check current rules with your chosen airline or authority before you book.

Get in touch

If you spot something that’s changed, want to share a route or hotel we should look at, or just need to flag an error, you can reach us via the info@travelwithcats.net

We all deserve a smoother, kinder travel experience, and so do our cats. This site exists to make that feel a little more possible.
